Mini Tennis Tots
For children aged between 3-5years who
will be introduced to the game of tennis through generic ball
skills. These will include: balance, movement, co-ordination and
general dexterity exercises introduced through fun games and skills
exercises.
Pre Mini Tennis Red
For children aged between 4-5years. This
course bridges the gap between Mini Tennis Tots and Mini Tennis
Red. The emphasis is on developing FUNdamental movement and ball
skills and above all else, FUN! They will be introduced to the
basic strokes needed to play the game, and will continue to build
on their balance, co-ordination and athletic skills. Players should
participate in Red Festival Days.
Mini Tennis Red
3
For children aged 5-8 years, who wish to start learning tennis.
Sessions will cover basic co-ordination and movement, racket and
ball skills, basic strokes and various fun games. The emphasis
is very much on fun and skill learning. Players in Red 3 should
be competing in LTA Red Level 3 & 4 Events and Red Festival
Days.
Mini Tennis Red
2
For children aged 5 and over who have progressed through the first
level. This course will develop the basic skills needed to play
the game and will address basic technique and tactics and getting
players to rally, serve and score. Players in Red 2 should be
competing in LTA Red Level 2 & 3 Events and Red Festival Days.
Mini Tennis Red
1
Here children will play on the Mini Tennis Red court but will
also be introduced to the Mini Tennis Orange ball. This will allow
the child to develop and further refine their skills so that progression
up to the next level is made easier. Players progressing from
this level must be able to play the game, understand the rules
and have good major shapes on all major strokes. Players in Red
1 should be competing in LTA Red Level 1 & 2 Events and Red
Festival Days.
Mini Tennis Orange
3
For children aged 8 years and over who are new to the game and
wish to start learning tennis. Sessions will cover basic co-ordination
and movement, racket and ball skills, basic strokes, tactics and
getting players to rally, serve and score. The emphasis is very
much on fun and skill learning. Players in Orange 3 should be
competing in LTA Orange Level 3 & 4 Events.
Mini Tennis Orange

For players progressing from Mini Tennis Red and Orange 1 who
have developed their skills sufficiently to move onto a modified
size court with low compression balls. Equipment, court size and
rules are adapted to cater for the players’ ability. Sessions
will cover co-ordination and movement, basic rules, technique
and tactics of the game. Players in Orange 2 should be competing
in LTA Orange Level 2 & 3 Events.
Mini Tennis Orange

For players who have progressed from Mini Tennis Orange 2. Here
children will continue to play on the Mini Tennis Orange court
so that they can enhance their understanding of the game, including
greater tactical awareness and more refined technique before progressing
onto the next level. They must be able to play a full game and
be able to score. Players in Orange 1 should be competing in LTA
Orange Level 1 & 2 Events.
Mini Tennis Green
3
For children aged 10 years and over who are new to the game and
wish to start learning tennis. Sessions will cover basic co-ordination
and movement, racket and ball skills, basic strokes, tactics and
getting players to rally, serve and score. The emphasis is very
much on fun and skill learning. Players in Green 3 should be competing
in LTA Green Level 3 & 4 Events.
Mini Tennis Green

For children (10 years +) who have progressed through the lower
levels. Sessions will focus on developing technique on all strokes
and explore tactical situations incorporating a games based approach
to enhance new skill and extend learning. Sessions will build
on all aspects covered in Mini Tennis Orange. Players in Green
2 should be competing in LTA Green Level 2 & 3 Events.
Mini Tennis Green
1
For children (10 years +) who have progressed through Mini Tennis
Green 2. Players in Green 1 should be technically competent in
all area and be able to execute shots with a variety of spin,
pace,accuracy and control on a full size court. Sessions will
use a games based approach to improve the players technical, tactical,
physical and mental understanding of the game. Players in Green
1 should be competing in LTA Green Level 1 & 2 Events.
Junior Bronze
For children (11yrs +) who are keen to play tennis, but are too
old for the Mini Tennis Programme. Sessions are intended to provide
a basic knowledge of all shots, providing individuals with the
abiliy to maintain a groundstroke rally from the baseline, serve
overarm and play a game of singles/doubles. Will also provide
a basic knowledge of the rules. Sessions to include technical
and tactical development incorporated within drills and fun games.
Junior Silver
For children (11 yrs +) who are able to rally consistently from
the baseline with both forehands and backhands. They must be able
to play all basic shots with a variety of spins and have an understanding
of the rules and tactics for both singles and doubles. Sessions
will include drills, games and tactics to assist in the development
of singles and doubles matchplay. This course is intended for
players who wish to play in tournaments and gain an LTA rating.
Junior Gold
For players (12 yrs +) who have a good understanding of the rules
and tactics for both singles and doubles. Players should be able
to rally from the baseline and be able to play all the basic strokes
with spin, pace and accuracy. Sessions will cover technical, tactical,
physical and mental aspects of the game. Players wishing to attend
this course should already have an LTA rating and be approved
by the Tennis Development Manager.
Developmental Performance
Squads
By invitation only. These squads are for players who have the
potential and desire to progress into the Junior Academy. Sessions
will focus on the long term player development process and are
intended to ensure that all players are sound technically and
physically, whilst providing them with an environment in which
they will learn how to use them. By staying tactically “open”
at this stage of development, players have a greater chance of
developing a game style based around their technical and physical
strengths, which should continue to develop as each player does,
allowing them to successfully compete with their national/international
peer group.
