Marcus Willis had a tremendous victory last week at the 18 & under ITF Grade 2 tournament in Cap D’Ail, France. The left-hander defeated the Belgian No 1 seed Alexandrie Folie 6-2 6-2 in the singles final.
Hutchins quoted: “Marcus has performed very well in ITF tournaments all year. In winning the Grade 2 event in Cap D’Ail, he is now the world’s No 16 ranked junior player making him the highest ranked Briton. It’s also great to set the bar for other British juniors to aspire to winning high grade ITF tournaments.”
The matches to the final Willis defeated Italian Stefano Travaglia 4-6 7-6 6-1, Frenchman Adrien Puget 6-3 6-3, Russian Stanislav Vovk 6-1 6-2 and German Jaan-Frederik Brunken 3-0 (retired).
