The LTA today announced that Tennis Midlands and Win Tennis at Bisham Abbey have been awarded International High Performance Centre (IHPC) status.
The announcement follows a review of all 20 High Performance Centres across the country. IHPC status mainly recognises the width and international standard of the player base in both centres. Both IHPCs will receive additional support form the LTA including increased access to world class expertise from Steven Martens (Player Director) and Louis Cayer (Performance Programmes Manager).
Steven Martens, Player Director at the LTA, said: “In the year that the High Performance Centres have been up and running I feel that real progress has been made by all centres. They are all an essential part in the delivery and development of a larger platform across the different age groups. I am delighted that both Tennis Midlands and Win Tennis have met the criteria for IHPC status, they both have a very strong player base which has, for the time being, set them apart from other centres.”
Mike Walker, Chief Executive & Director of Tennis at Win Tennis, said: “We are delighted to be granted IHPC status by the LTA. I feel it is recognition from the LTA for all the hard work that has been put in by everyone involved with Win Tennis, staff and players alike. We are looking ahead to some very exciting times in the coming months and have a team of coaches totally dedicated to getting the best out of our players. This enhanced status is a tribute to their commitment and effort, and a real incentive to expand on what we already have in place.”
The 20 HPCs were announced throughout 2007-2008 and the LTA has been working with all centres to provide enhanced technical, sports science and facilities advice as well as full access to the National Tennis Centre. All centres receive increased funding support between 2007 and 2009
